Welcome to Communities in Motion 2040 2.0 – the regional long-range transportation plan for Ada and Canyon Counties, Idaho. The goal of this plan is to ensure that Ada and Canyon Counties remain a healthy and economically vibrant region that offers people choices in how and where they live, work, play, and travel.

 

This plan is an update to Communities in Motion 2040, adopted in 2014, and as such retains the same horizon year, growth forecast, and many other tenets of Communities in Motion 2040. Learn more about what has stayed the same and what has changed.

MAINTENANCE

COMPASS uses much of its federal funding to maintain the existing transportation system, including roadways, public transportation, and bicycle and pedestrian networks.

There is not enough funding to meet all transportation needs. Unfunded needs have been prioritized and COMPASS will continue to seek funding for these regional priorities.

POPULATION

The Treasure Valley's population is estimated to grow by almost 53% between 2017 and 2040, from 670,000 to 1.022 million. This CIM 2040 2.0 plan explores how the area can accommodate this growth while balancing the valley's quality of life.

HOUSEHOLDS

Current estimates show a 67% increase in the number of Treasure Valley households by 2040. In 2017, there are approximately 241,000; by 2040, 402,600. Planners and developers must consider what types of housing to build, and where, to best meet these demands and provide transportation choices for access to employment, recreation, and more.

EMPLOYMENT

The Treasure Valley could see explosive job growth—an increase of 86%—by 2040. This plan takes a look at the need for efficient freight networks and strategic positioning of employment centers in order to support a healthy economy.
